Missouri Governor Bars Sexual Orientation Bias
In his State of the State Address, Gov. Jay Nixon said he’s fighting for every worker and every job in the Show Me State. He took steps to make good on that statement this week in a move suprising the LGBT community by issuing an executive order prohibiting employment discrimination based on Sexual Orientation for the Executive Branch of Gernment.
Gov. Jay Nixon has issued an executive order prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in executive branch hiring, promotion, pay scales, and the like.
“The State of Missouri shall work to ensure that there will be no vestiges of discrimination against persons on account of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, or disability; not only in employment practices but in the provision of services and the operation of facilities,” the executive order says.
