“Our hope is that by adding the parental consent that it’ll kill them,” said Travis Christiansen

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — The existence of campus clubs for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender high school students has become an issue in the race for seats on the Washington County School District Board. The Gay-Straight Alliance clubs were formed in March at four southern Utah high schools after pressure from Utah’s chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union forced the district to change its policies. Each school club has about between 15 and 20 members. Two candidates challenging incumbent board members have said they want to eliminate or deteriorate the clubs, the Spectrum of St. George reports. They say the clubs don’t reflect the community’s conservative values. The federal Equal Access Act requires schools with non-curriculum clubs to allow GSAs or face the loss of federal funding.via UT school board race targets gay-straight clubs | St. George News.

“I think it’s outside the bounds of our community,” said Larry LeBaron, one of four candidates challenging four incumbents.”I think somebody has to have the guts to stand up and say no,” he added, saying that he was willing to face a lawsuit if that was the result.

So far this school year the GSAs, with about 15 to 20 students in each school, have operated much like other clubs, meeting regularly, conducting community service projects and abiding by school rules.”This year our club has battling bullying as its main focus,” said Snow Canyon High School’s GSA President Jason Osmanski during a Thursday meeting of another club, Living into Equality, Acceptance and Diversity Ambassadors.

Choose The Dorothy!

“They say the clubs don’t reflect the community’s conservative values.”– Shouldn’t it say the clubs don’t reflect the communities religious extremist values!  Gay bullying is showing up daily in the news and yet political candidates want to further the hate, violence, and bigotry by eliminating or deteriorating a place safe for teens to be who God made them without fear of attack?

Gay Hater!

Both incumbents and candidates  are doing their best to eliminate the Gay clubs.  “Our hope is that by adding the parental consent that it’ll kill them,” said Travis Christiansen, another sitting board member up for reelection.

Maybe these politicians should run for School Board seats in Arkansas!
