October 24, 2010

Mikkeli Diocese Bishop Seppo Häkkinen, said on Saturday that tax losses to the church due to these resignations could top two million euros annually. He put out a call asking members to not resign, citing the financial impact on the church. Church Archbishop Kari Mäkinen said it was unfortunate and incredible that people were leaving the church on the issue of homosexuality. Christian Democrats leader Räsänen placed the blame for the wave of resignations on the media, describint it as “one more example of the domino effect of the Internet age.”
