In the era of marriage equality, it isn’t just traditional nuptials themselves which are getting a makeover — but other wedding customs, too. Independent filmmaker Elliot London has put together this short film, titled “The Wedding Dance,” which features a surprise twist ending that’s sure to bring a tear to your eye.
Concerned Women for America’s Janice Crouse trots out a cavalcade of statistical cliches to demonstrate how gay relationship threaten the institution of marriage.
Rush Limbaugh implies that marriage has always been important to conservatives, but liberals who in the 60′s saw marriage as old fashioned have only taken up the cause for marriage since ‘the gays’ wanted to get married.
However, as a ‘leader’ of the conservative movement, Limbaugh has been married four times, busted for drug abuse and doctor shopping, and in 2006 busted again for smuggling prescription drugs back into the country. Clearly the right wing conservatives don’t care about marriage or drug abuse. In fact the only conservative values they favor are values that hold them above morality or the law. Thank God the Liberals are carrying the torch of decency, equality and fairness.
The parents of Andrew Wilfahrt, a dead gay soldier who died for his country are telling his story in the hopes it sways the heartless bigots in MN to pass marriage equality.
“This community needs are hetero’s who show up and say these are my people you’re discriminating against… their citizenship is every bit as valid as yours or mine”- Father of Andrew Wilfahrt
The National Organization For Marriage (NOM), the leading anti-marriage equality organization in the United States, has always been a mystery. Maggie Gallagher, her name synonymous with NOM, herself has always been a mystery too, given her status as a leading “traditional marriage” supporter who has a very-hidden husband, who admits to having had a child out of wedlock, and has another child rumored to be gay himself. Now, with the defection of NOM’s grassroots and online messaging strategist, Louis Marinelli, we’re getting some insight into the mighty army that almost single-handedly has been able to — at least temporarily — keep equality at bay in several key battlegrounds. And we’re learning what we’ve been led to believe is a mighty army is an army of about a half-dozen people.
I saw this today on one of my favorite blogs TRYSTATE Magazine. It’s NSFW incase you were tempted to click on the link, but the art is fantastic! Anyway, Once I got over the quasi-stalker mindset of this guy I realized how sad this man’s story really is.
He has his whole life in front of him. He’s 22, and he’s going to move across the country just so he doesn’t have to address his fear of meeting people! It’s a sad state when we’ve become SO disconnected from each other that he writes to a blog rather than be rejected or accepted by another human being.
The way I see it, there are really two long-term options. Neither are mutually exclusive. First, go see a therapist, he obviously needs help in learning how to interact (and even the best therapist is cheaper than moving across country, and two GROW SOME BALLS! Life is tough, sometimes you get what you want and sometimes you don’t. But NOT going after what you want will never give you the results you desire.
Robbeyond,
I am a 27 year old man in Portland. I go to the same event each week just so that I can see him. If he isn’t there it ruins my whole week. I stalk his facebook, google him and track his moves. He doesn’t know I exist. When i am near him, my body is on fire. I walk by him and I breathe in deeply to just to smell him. I stare at him inappropriately for long periods of time. I once bought an orange he picked up at the store and put back. I have jerked off thinking of him every night for over 5 months. I am so ashamed of my behavior that I am going to move to the east coast. -RTT
Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse founder of the Ruth Institute in her lecture at Franciscan University openly attacks modern marriage. Not only does she attack marriage in the context of same-sex marriage but her argument that the “Essential Public Purpose of Marriage” is to attach mothers and fathers to children from infancy to adulthood shakes the foundation of civil and religious marriage for many heterosexual couples as well.
She argues that if there’s no need to attach parents to children that there’s no need for marriage at all. That means:
1. Married couples (heterosexual or homosexuals) who don’t bear children shouldn’t be married or their marriage should be invalidated.
2. It also means that heterosexual couples who chose marry later in life (after child-bearing years) should also be denied marriage since it doesn’t fit into the “Public Purpose”.
3. Additionally, one could argue that once a married couple raises children to adulthood their marriage should be annulled since it no longer serves a public purpose.
Her views only further the reality that bigots will stop at nothing to further their agenda of hate and discrimination regardless of the collateral impact it has on the freedom and rights of others and the whole of American society.
An interesting side note, Dr. Jennifer is a married Catholic mother of two (a girl born in 1991 and an adopted Romanian boy born in 1989). Both children are now legal adults. Following her own advice, I’m assuming she’ll file for divorce because her marriage no longer serves “The Essential Public Purpose of Marriage”!
Bigots claim that gay marriage invites everything from polygamy to the introduction of Islam into American society and is even bigoted towards Christianity. One comment, as if Christianity invented marriage… I bet the Muslims, Jews, Hindus and Budists were glad to know that!
I want each of you to listen to this twice. First for her anti-modern marriage rhetoric, and then I want to you hit play again, close your eyes and subsitute interracial marriage for same sex marriage.
She uses the same tired argument Virginia used in an attempt to uphold their anti-civil rights views on interracial marriage in the ’60′s.
NOM is trying to stuff the ballot box for the upcoming Republican National Convention. They’re afraid that Republicans may move from the Religious Right back to center (a novel idea) and compromise with gay marriage advocates and do what’s fair and right for the citizens of the United States. NOM doesn’t want this to happen. They want to keep LGBT as second class citizens and want your money and your votes to do it.
Miss Maggie Gallegar wants to block gay marriage because she illegitimately states “it will be the end of marriage as we know it” and “is no longer related to bringing together mothers and fathers to raise the next generation”. The fact is, changing the marriage laws does not impede bringing together mothers and fathers or anyone who wants to rear and raise children. Once again, NOM tries to change the discussion. They want you to believe that somehow allowing gay marriage will ruin the existing marriages. The fact is, it has no bearing on how existing marriages are sanctioned and performed it only ADDS to those by allowing two loving people to marry, regardless of others religious doctrine.
NOM states with respect to the RNC:
There is tremendous pressure from inside-the-Beltway, establishment Republicans to water down the party’s commitment to marriage, compromising with gay marriage advocates or trying to sweep the issue under the rug in hopes that it will go away. But it isn’t going anywhere – not with a Supreme Court ruling likely looming in the next two years – and we need a RNC Chairman who is willing to make the case for marriage, religious liberty and the proper role of the judiciary, investing resources to advance the cause of marriage both nationally and at the state and local level all across the country.
…
Thus far, only a few hundred people have voted for any question in the RNC Debate poll. With your help, we can send yet one more strong message to the RNC, reminding them that marriage is a core issue for Republican voters, and urging them to elect a chairman who will be steadfast and unwavering in his or her support for marriage.
…
Here’s how NOM is trying to STUFF the ballot box:
1. Register. Go to RNCDebate.org and click the REGISTER button. You’ll need to provide an email address and create a password in order to vote.
2. Check your email. An email confirming your registration will be sent to the email address you provide. Click on the link in the email to confirm your account.
3. Vote for marriage! The primary marriage question is item #24 (scroll down to the question and click on the UP arrow to give it a “thumbs up” vote). The question reads:
Question #24
“Surveys uniformly show that over 80% of Republicans support the traditional definition of marriage. GOP candidates who support gay marriage like Dede Scozzafava, Bill Binnie and Tom Campbell have been trounced in GOP primaries. In the 31 states where marriage has appeared on the ballot, including in deep blue states like California and Maine, the voters in every state have rejected gay marriage and voted in favor of traditional marriage. Yet most candidates have been encouraged by the RNC to avoid speaking up on the marriage issue. Will you continue this policy or will you encourage candidates to make their position on marriage clear to voters?”
And while you’re there, you may also want to vote for Question #23:
“As chairman, what specifically would you do differently than current and past administrations when it comes to the issues of Life and Marriage? Will you highlight these two critical issues in political advertising programs?”
