Millions of people will dress in purple on Thursday — both in person and online — to mark the second annual Spirit Day, a day demonstrate support for LGBT youth and to speak out against bullying.

Spirit Day was first occurred in October 2010 following the deaths of numerous young LGBTQ people, who committed suicide after enduring years of anti-gay bullying. In response Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan campaigned on social media websites, encouraging people to wear purple on Oct. 20 to demonstrate support for LGBT young people who are victims of bullying.

The color purple was chosen because it symbolizes “spirit” on the Rainbow Flag.

Father says ‘bullying was definitely a factor’ in son Jamie Hubley’s suicide

Another soul lost to despair and depression from months of bullying.  Ottowa resident Jamie Hubley, a 15-year-old gay teen took his own life  after blogging his suicide note just hours before.  His father, Allan released a statement that Jamie had been bullied.

In a statement released by his family on Monday, Jamie’s father Allan Hubley said “bullying was definitely a factor” in his son’s death.

I spent some time this evening reading Jamie’s blog and watching videos of him that he had made covering various artists on youtube.  In a world where we’re peppered with violence and growing more disconnected, it’s easy to think of Jamie as another anonymous casualty of teen depression and bullying.  I encourage you to read his blog and watch some of his videos.  Put a face to the name.  This was a young and beautiful soul who felt so trapped and depressed that the only way he could resolve his pain was to take his own life.  It’s sad, it’s heart breaking and it’s REAL.

Jamie… May you find peace and all those things you hoped for in the next life.  God rest your soul and God bless your family as they try and make sense of their loss…

The National Organization for Marriage, an allegedly Christian organization which has a top 10 spot on SPLC’s Hate Group watch list has recently pledged $2 million dollars to oust NY legislators responsible for getting Gay Marriage passed.  In the past they’ve taken credit for helping remove Iowa justices who protected LGBT marriage in that state.  In addition they’re mounting fights against marriage equality in states like New Hampshire, Maine, New York and Minnesota among others.

One of my favorite bloggers and South Carolina citizen Alvin McEwen of ‘Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters‘ has introduce a fantastic new Facebook group dedicated to exposing the enormous number of underhanded, anti-Christian, anti-Modern family and anti-gay tactics NOM uses on a regular basis.

This is a great way for one-stop shopping to learn more about and exposing an anti-American hate group like the National Organization for Marriage.

I encourage everyone to sign-up and share as much as you can about this organization which is a credible threat to Human and Civil rights in America…

The NOM Files is a new facebook group dedicated to shedding a light on NOM’s activities. Every distortion of the group will be trotted out, every lie will be remembered, and every time NOM tries to hide its donors, it will be given front page coverage.

The rules for The NOM Files are simple. Anyone can join and anyone can post. But I reserve the right to edit posts – which I will only do if the posts don’t fit the mission of the facebook group.

NOM has a lot to answer for. But until the lgbtq community and our allies make it a point to demand these answers, then we’re aren’t going to get them.

Anti-Gay Hate Crime in Massachusetts

Nine youths are facing hate crime charges in the attack of an openly gay man in Springfield, Massachusetts.

According to Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney, the 30-year-old victim was beaten and robbed at a park early Tuesday morning.

“He was knocked to the ground and punched in the face with closed fists, and kicked in the head and abdomen,” Delaney said. “During the beating, the females encouraged the males to beat up the victim.”

Delaney said the suspects also yelled anti-gay slurs at the victim.

Shay Andre Edwards, 19, was arrested on unarmed robbery and violation of civil rights with injury charges. Eight other suspects, ranging in ages 12 to 19, are also facing charges.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are investigating a suspected hate crime after a group of men beat two gay Fort Carson soldiers and others while shouting anti-homosexual and racial slurs.

The victims told KRDO-TV they believe they were targeted at a fast food restaurant early Saturday because they’re gay.

The two men said they were out at a nightclub with a group of friends early Saturday morning and went to grab something to eat afterward.

“(We) went to Albert Tacos after leaving the nightclub where we work at,” Ted told the news station.

John added that some of his friends are go-go dancers at a local club.

“As soon as we walked in, there was a group of African American males that walked in,” John said. “And they started a confrontation with us because of the fact that one of our go-gos was still in his outfit.”

The victims said it started as a verbal confrontation.

“A lot of racial slurs,” John told KRDO. “A lot of hatred slurs towards like homosexuals.”

The men said it quickly escalated to physical violence.

“I ended up getting kicked in the head and in the ribs several times,” John said. “I have six bruised ribs. And my right eye was completely swollen shut for about nine or 10 hours.

According to police, another victim was treated for a facial fracture. His jaw had to be wired shut.

Police said they are looking in to the possibility of hate crime charges if the assailants are arrested.

Joshua Esskew said he stopped at the Gas Spot on South Cherry Road last Saturday. The 19-year-old said one second he heard a gay slur and the next second he was almost unconscious.

“I responded with, ‘What was that you said?’ But nothing offensive toward them,” Esskew said, describing the encounter.

Surveillance video from the store shows a man hitting Esskew over the head with a beer bottle.

“Three came up from the gas pumps. Two came up toward the Laundromat. There were three or four already standing there. They all just came,” Esskew said.

Investigators say a mob rushed to join in the attack just because they could.

Rugby Superstar and Straight Ally Ben Cohen to Launch ‘Acceptance Tour 2011′

Ben Cohen is launching his ‘Acceptance Tour 2011′ aimed at increasing awareness for LGBT human rights and youth bullying.  How is it The States gets asshole athletes like Kobe Bryant, and the UK gets a great man like Ben Cohen?  Come on America- Man up and be a Ben Cohen!

English rugby star Ben Cohen – a straight ally who is a staunch supporter of LGBT equality – condemned Bryant’s remarks.

“It is disappointing to see this.  As a professional athlete and rugby World Cup champion, I understand the heat and passion of competition at the highest levels.  But we must all remember that strong bodies must be balanced with strong characters, and work toward that end. Our positions as role models demand it.”

Cohen is coming to the US next month to launch his “Acceptance Tour 2011,” aimed at raising awareness around LGBT equality and, in particular, youth bullying.  HRC will be hosting an event for Ben during his stop in Washington DC.

Athletes looking to advocate for equality also can get involved through HRC’s Athletes for Equality program. The initiative allows athletes to fundraise for equality through participation in sporting events.

Hate Group’s ‘Day of Dialog’: Using Children to Promote Discrimination and Hate

Focus on the Family is promoting Monday April the 18th as a day using children to promote their anti-gay agenda.  Once again, this hate group shows their true colors.  They try and use their warped perception of  ’Christian’ values to propagate bigotry, discrimination and hatred against the LGBT community.  They’re calling  children a ‘training ground’ and plan to leverage their naivety to influence them against the LGBT community as early as possible.  The site and video promote entering the dialog (by dialog they imply dialog about the evils of homosexuality and same-sex marriage) with ‘boldness’.  They’re providing conversation cards to begin the ‘dialog’.

While calling their day of dialog an opportunity to share their love of God the also specifically point out ‘how’ to have conversations when confronted by homosexuality and gay marriage.  I think I threw up in my mouth a little…

To make sure children promote their anti-LGBT agenda, the prepared cards say things like:

“I also believe that He designed the best plan for our sexuality and relationships.”

On their site, Focus on the Family specifically points out to Parents (of course this isn’t on their front page) that:

 …the need for God’s hope has never been greater—especially in our public schools, many of which have increasingly delved into promoting controversial sexual topics to students, such as homosexuality, transgenderism and gay marriage. All too often, this occurs in a way that is extremely disrespectful of parental rights and students’ religious freedoms.

This is just one more way for this anti-American family to propagate it’s ‘Second Civil-War’ and get more donations.  It’s ironic that a group named ‘Focus on the Family’ does anything but focus on families.  Instead, they incite civil discourse and try and divide Americans along whatever flashpoint topic they can find all in the name of fundraising…

House GOP Plans Hearing on ‘Defending Marriage’

Once again, the Republican Party shows their disconnection with the American people and self-centered on their own immoral agenda.  This is a party that is more interested in violating the human rights of over 9 million openly LGBT and 25 million Americans who as extremists term it ‘same-sex attraction’ than they are on running a fiscally efficient government that creates jobs and responding to the mortgage crisis.

And while I’m at it, how is it that the Republican’s always twist anti-gay marriage with ‘defending marriage’.  It’s not like heterosexual couples would stop getting married if gays are allowed, so what is there to defend?  That it’s between a man and a woman?  Really? Because why, they’re going to have children?  I was once married to a woman and subsequently divorced.  We never had children.  With this line of argument, I was never really ‘married’ and I should get the costs of my divorce back!  So if the GOP is ‘Defending Marriage’, I want my divorce refund!!

 

 

A subcommittee in the Republican-controlled U.S. House is set on April 15 to hear testimony in a hearing titled “Defending Marriage.”

The hearing, which is set to take place before the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, is scheduled to begin at 10 am in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

As of Friday, no witness list was posted on the committee website, nor was the intent the hearing immediately known. Whether the likely impending shutdown of the federal government would cancel or postpone the hearing also wasn’t immediately clear.

Criticism for holding the hearing came Friday from the Human Rights Campaign and the office of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)

HRC President Joe Solmonese counted the upcoming testimony as the third anti-gay hearing that Republicans have held since they took control of the House — recalling the two hearings that have already taken place on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal implementation.

“The Republican Party, and House Republicans in particular, seem to be fixated on beating up on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans,” Solmonese said. “The government is on the brink of shutting down, yet Republicans are still hell-bent on wasting tax-payer dollars fighting battles out of step with the American people’s priorities.”

So let me get this correct.  El’Jai was born a woman, is now a post-operative transexual, has bits and everything, and has  a legal birth certificate saying he’s a man.  And New Jersey doesn’t accept that because why? He was biologically born a woman?  It’s like saying Dolly Parton doesn’t have tits!

A transgender employee hired to oversee urine tests administered to men has filed a discrimination lawsuit against a Camden drug treatment center that fired him after it confronted him about his gender last summer.

El’Jai Devoureau, 39, said Urban Treatment Associates questioned him about his gender a day after he started working in the position, which had been open only to male candidates.

“Is El’Jai a male? The employer says no, and El’Jai says he is,” said Michael Silverman of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund in New York, which filed the lawsuit Friday. “He’s undergone hormone treatment and surgery.”

The case challenges an employer’s right to eliminate transgender candidates for positions that the law says may be gender-specific. Silverman said he was unaware of any previous transgender-discrimination case that addressed the issue.

When his employer asked about his gender after he began work, Devoureau responded, “I am a man, and I can do the job. They said, ‘You’re fired,’ ” he said during an interview Monday.

The Catholic League Blames Gays for Abuse Scandals

Catholic homophobe Bill Donohue tried to scapegoat both the Gay and Jewish communities for the behavior of Catholic clergy.  Donohue blames gays for the clergy sexual abuse scandals.  Someone needs to teach Donohue that homosexuality does NOT equal pedophilia.  In addition, he pointed fingers at Orthodox Jews and the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests in that they were encouraging victimization and hatred of Catholicism.

Sorry Donohue, the Inquisitions used by the Catholic church to silence their enemies have long since gone.

It’s time that Catholicism denounce Papal infallibility and recognize that it’s time to clean house ask God and your communities for forgiveness (turn pedophiles over to local authorities across the globe) and get back to what you started 1800 years ago… preaching the word of Christ… not bastardizing it.

Remains of Lesbian Arson Victims Home

Not only is this couple a victim of arson, but their victims of nothing less than discrimination and homophobia on the part of their home owners insurance company (ANPAC).  For over seven months, their insurance company has refused to pay the claim, even though the couple has produced all the requested documentation and testimony.  Not only have they lost their home, but they’re having to pay for temporary housing, cost of living expenses, the mortgage on a home that no longer exists AND their insurance premium. 48000+ people have petitioned ANPAC, yet they still refuse to act.

 

American National Property and Casualty (ANPAC) might want to consider a tagline for their business: “If we insure your home, and it gets burned down in a vicious, anti-gay hate crime, don’t expect us to pay your claim.”

That’s because for more than seven months, a Tennessee couple — Carol Ann and Laura Stutte — have been waiting for ANPAC to process their claim for their destroyed house.

Back in September 2010, Carol Ann and Laura went away for the weekend to celebrate their anniversary. When they arrived back home, they found that their house had been torched to the ground and turned into ashes. Only a garage was left standing, and on the side of the garage was written the word “QUEERS” in big, black spray-painted letters.

No one has ever been held accountable for setting the fire that destroyed the Stutte’s home. And ANPAC, the company that Carol Ann and Laura insured their home with, has gone AWOL, refusing to pay the claim on the property despite the fact that all that remains of the house is ashes.

Mocked Gay FL Student Wants Public Apology

Luke Herbert, the Palm Coast, Fla., high school freshman whose shop teacher mocked him and made antigay comments in class, says he is not satisfied with the apology his former school district has given. Herbert, who recently posted his story on his own YouTube account, says he and his mother are still considering suing the school district.
